1. Introduction
When Ruby met Jacqui they each formed a stereotypical ‘picture’ in their minds of who the other was. Jacqui saw an ‘off the wall’ comedienne who was also a little daunting, whilst Ruby saw a ‘corporate stiff in a suit’. Since then they have substantially changed their opinions! They will show you how their mental filters, their ‘buttons’ and ‘gremlins’ got in the way. They will explain how this relates to you and in your business communications. They teach four basic principles of success: Self Esteem, Self Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management.
2. ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Buttons’
Sometimes referred to as ‘Gremlins’ or ‘Stress Triggers’, these are areas of sensitivity, which we all have, that hold us back from peak performance and powerful communications. Buttons are created as a result of negative experiences building up filters through which we perceive the world. By exploring these and becoming aware of when they rather than our conscious selves are in control, we start to free ourselves from their control. Jacqui will explain the concept (based on her doctoral research), with Ruby and Jacqui using themselves as examples.
3. Understanding what happens in the brain when a button is pushed
Ruby will show videos of where her buttons were ‘pushed’ during 20 years of interviewing the famous on the BBC. Ruby and Jacqui deconstruct these together and show where Ruby could have made different choices. Ruby will explain what occurs in the brain when a button is pushed, based on her studies in Psychology and recent research on Mindfulness at Oxford University.
4. Identifying your buttons
You will be taught a unique process for identifying a button, and Jacqui and Ruby will explore your unique experiences with you. Once you are aware of what your key buttons are, you will be able to work out new ways of responding to situations and to take real control of your emotions. This will help you manage all your relationships, inside and outside of organizations. You will have opportunities to share (but only if you want to!) your experiences with each other and with the full audience. The session is lively, participative and at times moving, at others fun. Be prepared to challenge yourself at a new level.
5. Making real connections
Ruby and Jacqui will show you how to make instant powerful connections with others – real visceral connections that you can feel. Not prejudging people is key. The power of this work is immense. Ruby and Jacqui came to it via different paths but they are completely aligned in the way forward and passionate about sharing what they know with the corporate world.
